Storm Water Management

The tragic storms in July, 2003, while historic in nature, served to highlight the City’s need to address aging storm water and sanitary sewer infrastructure, as well as maintenance, throughout Hudson. To adequately address these issues would require a comprehensive, City-wide storm water action plan—rather than simply tackling individual problems home by home. City Council and City staff recognized that to address these issues would require commitment and funding.

To fund this aggressive initiative, Hudson voters passed the Issue 3 income tax levy in March of 2004. Of the money generated from the new tax, approximately one-half will go to storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure and maintenance (about $3.5 million a year). The comprehensive 10-year, long-term action plan involves clearing major tributaries, eliminating/reducing inflow & infiltration, additional retention/detention ponds, and new infrastructure.
